Morihei
Ueshiba - Ame no Murakumo Kuki Samuhara Ryüo
Because of his deep insight, Ueshiba was able to integrate
the essential elements of the martial arts with his spiritual disciplines
and connect the relevance of self improvement, the mind-body link,
also described as ‘KI’, with the dynamics of bio-mechanical
efficiency, physics and metaphysics into a unique training methodology
which would give rise to a “Do” or Way of developing a
productive, well rounded, positive and indomitable human being.
Ueshiba aspired to the ideal of reconciliationand “BU”,that
of de-escalation and stopping of violence. But he sought to refine
it further.
It is a fact proven by history that acts of aggression
seldom, if ever, have brought about a true and sustainable cessation
of violence that is of any value. Some tribal feuds have persisted
for thousands of years and continue to this day at an immense cost
to all humanity. The cost of contention and war is too high, the losses
sustained both in human life, culture and productivity too great. Violence
is a form of insanity that escalates, taking up a life of its own until
it runs out of fuel. It produces nothing but waste, suffering and terrible
backlash. History shows that wars end because resources run out and
not because they have any constructive value. There is no need to elaborate.
Daily, in the news, we are beset with the revolting behaviours of many,
who whilst having human form, nevertheless behave in less than human
manner toward other humans who share this tiny planet. Ueshiba was
clear on this.
The question was how to achieve the perfect defence
capability without degrading integrity by sinking into violence.
